We have found ourselves in Switzerland more often than any other European country because of our jobs. Not a bad gig if you can get it right?

My first trip to Europe was in Geneva, Switzerland. From the moment I exited the train station, I was blown away. I was definitely not in New Jersey anymore. Everything looked different. As I looked across the lake, I saw the tall snow capped mountains and it looked like something out of a movie.

On that first trip, we took a cog train through the Alps to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn. We also traveled to Thun, which is at the base of the Jungfrau.

On subsequent trips, we have been to Rigi Kulm and ventured through the Italian Alps through Domadosala and Como. Most of we traveled by time by train but once we took a road trip to Switzerland, Italy, and Austria. By the way, one of the things I noticed while traveling the roads through the Alps was how great the roads are! No potholes anywhere. I mean you can’t go a mile in New Jersey without encountering potholes the size of sink holes! I marveled at how the roads were so pristine. Not long ago I learned why the roads are so well taken care of (at least in Switzerland). When planning the roadway network, they designed the roads so that they could used as runways for the Airforce. How about those Swiss? So if you ever have the chance to drive through Switzerland pay attention to how beautiful those roads are.

The beauty of these mountains is breathtaking. We were there in the spring and the melting snow gave way to waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides. I marveled at the houses that seemed to be tucked unto the mountains. I wondered if hermits lived there because how the heck to you get to these places? The goats and cows grazing in the meadows seemed to hang on to the mountainside. The bells around their necks tell the shepherds of their whereabouts. I’m sure that this is what inspired The Sound of Music. The song swirled in my head the whole time I was traveling through the Alps. Thankfully, (at least my family thanks me) I didn’t pull a Clark Griswold but I sure wanted to!
